IMPORTANT: Because of the bad weather forecast, the Matthews Board of Commissioners meeting has been rescheduled to THURSDAY JAN 29.

Purser Hulsey Park is at a critical moment and we need your help.

Last March, the Matthews Board of Commissioners approved $11 million in bonds for park improvements, with the largest investment focused on Purser Hulsey. That commitment created real opportunity, but now the details matter.

Trailblazer members recently attended a Parks & Recreation advisory meeting and learned that some options currently under consideration could significantly REDUCE mountain biking at the park, including:

  • LOSS of existing volunteer-built trails
  • FAILURE to move forward with the planned pump track
  • The good news: final plans are still being shaped.

What happens next comes down to budget and prioritization decisions, and those decisions are influenced by public input.

Here’s how you can help — two simple actions:

1️⃣ Show up to the next Matthews Board of Commissioners meeting

Monday Jan 29th 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 232 Matthews Station Street.

You don’t need to speak. Just being there matters.

We will have a Trailblazers board member speaking, but a room filled with riders and supporters sends a powerful message.

👉 Bring your helmet. Wear MTB gear or Trailblazers shirts.

2️⃣ Send a short email to the Commissioners

Even a few sentences in your own words makes a difference.

We believe the final plans should:

  • Preserve the existing trail system built and maintained by volunteers
  • Include a bike skills park as originally envisioned
  • Save money, improve safety, and protect tree canopy by eliminating a full connecting road

Commissioners’ emails (just copy and paste all into your message):

If you ride, walk, or care about Purser Hulsey—now is the moment to show it.
