Mazeppa Park
Distance: 6 mi Elevation Gain: 300 ft Est. Time: 30-45 mins for a full lap. Difficulty: Beginner
Five miles of fast, flowy singletrack loaded with berms. Easy to build speed and keep it. Beginner-friendly, with optional rock gardens and jump lines for riders who want more.
Mazeppa Park is a 163-acre Town of Mooresville park on Mazeppa Road, about five miles from downtown Mooresville and right next to the GoPro Motorplex. Alongside its soccer and baseball fields, the park has around five miles of purpose-built mountain bike singletrack that opened in 2019.
The trails were built for the Town by Jim Horton, the builder behind the trails at Kerr-Scott and Wilkesboro, and it shows. Almost every turn is bermed, so it's easy to carry speed. The main loop winds through the woods north of the soccer fields and behind the Motorplex, with three wooden bridges, a creek crossing and a short rhythm section on the way back to the trailhead.
Newer riders can stick to the main loop, which is rated green. If you want more, there are options: a short rock garden loop near the end of the main loop (with an easy bypass), a rockier section across the access road between the soccer and baseball fields, and two jump lines added in 2023.
The trails are shared with hikers, trail runners and dogs on leashes. A paved greenway of about two miles links the two sides of the park and several of the trail sections.
Tarheel Trailblazers volunteers help look after the trails in partnership with the Town of Mooresville Parks & Recreation Dept.

Details & Logistics
Right Soccer Field Lot
645 Mazeppa Rd, Mooresville, NC 28115
Turn into the park from Mazeppa Road. At the traffic circle go right towards the soccer fields, then turn into the parking lot on the right. The trail kiosk is at the southeast corner of the lot. Parking is free. The park hosts frequent soccer and baseball tournaments, and the lot can be busy on those days.
Get DirectionsOther Lots
If primary lot where trail kiosk is located is full, there is more parking on the other side of the soccer fields, and also by the baseball fields. Trails can be accessed from the baseball fields and greenway makes it wasy to get round the park.
7am - Dusk
Class 1 e-bikes are allowed on trails. Class 1 means bikes that only provide electric assistance when pedaling, don’t have a throttle and don't provide assistance over 20mph. Any bike with a throttle or that can provide electric assistance over 20mph is not allowed on trails because of the safety risk to other trail users, and the hard to repair trail damage they cause.
The trails close after rain, usually for about 24 hours, so check the trail status before you drive over.
Start at the trail kiosk and climb to the main loop. At the first fork, go right and ride the main loop counter-clockwise. The trails are shared with walkers, runners and dogs on leashes. Keep your speed in check on blind corners, and say hello.
Park closes at dusk - no night riding.
Drinking water and vending machines in the park. Gas/food and a bike shop available in downtown Mooresville.
Restrooms are located in the middle of the soccer fields, and also by the baseball fields.
Trail Segments
Mazeppa Park Loop Trail
The main event and the best place to start. Leave from the trail kiosk by the soccer fields and climb gently to the big loop through the woods. Nearly every turn is bermed. You'll see wooden bridges, features and a crossing. Barn Ripper short cuts the loop with a fun bermed descent. Option to connect off near the end to run the soccer field and ball field jump lines, then loop back to the start on the Mazeppa Park Trail.
Barn Ripper
A short, fun berm-filled run between sections of the main loop. Added in 2023.
Mazeppa Park Trail
The rockier section across the access road from the trailhead, running between the soccer and baseball fields. Short rock gardens and a creek crossing. Can enter from the ball fields as well Can be ridden as a loop, or to connect the main trail back to the kiosk at the start.
Soccer Field Jump Line
The easier of the two jump areas. Several interweaving lines with berms, jumps, small drops and rock features, with ways to roll around most of them. Reach it from a turn off the main loop (a steep climb) or from the greenway on the west side of the soccer fields.
Ball Field Jump Line
For experienced riders. Two short downhill jump lines with tabletops, drops, a gap jump and rock faces. Starts across the greenway from the right-field foul pole of baseball field #3 and exits onto the greenway, so it's easy to session.
First Timer Tips
- New to mountain biking? Start with the main loop. It's rated green, and the berms make it easy to keep your speed. Optional features at the side of the trail for more experienced riders.
- Near the end of the main loop, go right to take the soccer field jump lines, or left to finish the loop.
- The jump lines are optional. The Soccer Field line has roll-arounds for most features. The Ball Field line is for experienced riders. Both are easy to session and build your skills.
- In summer, poison ivy can grow along the trail edges. Watch where you step if you stop.
